Helping keep the grass greener on the other side.

Last summer, my friends and I decided to start a community garden. Most of us had never participated in this type of project before - we wanted to grow our own vegetables, learn some new things and, well, spend some time together. Except for some lonely parsley that I planted on my balcony, I had never gardened. The parsley never grew and I had a feeling that this community garden idea would prove a great opportunity to learn how to garden. To my suprise, I found out that it's actually not that hard to grow vegetables and that tending a garden is pretty easy! It also helps when 8 other people are taking turns watering, weeding and harvesting with you. In fact, that's the most important thing I learned last summer: it's easier and more fun with other people.

The bottom line: tomatoes taste better when they've been cared for by people you know. Together we can not only grow more food but also learn more than we would all by our lonesome! My stunted parsley is a great example of this. Looking at the state of the world today, it is becoming more and more clear that the time for ideas like this has arrived. Plant a seed in the ground and something beautiful will grow. Help keep the grass greener on the other side!
